Malfors Review

The Malfors is a low height, unsophisticated mattress that lacks the comfort and support for regular use. With that said, it could be an option for temporary sleeping arrangements.

Purchase and delivery

This mattress can be ordered online, and delivery is available Australia-wide (see full delivery information in our ‘Delivery’ section below). It can also be purchased through any of IKEA’s stores across Australia.

Aesthetically, the Malfors presents with a simple, plain appearance. It uses a white colour theme along with a brand name label at its base.

Comfort and support

This mattress has a removable (and washable) cover made from cotton and polyester. This cover sits over a layer of comfort foam that feels hard and uncomfortable.

We rated the Malfors as an ‘firm’ feel and a 8 / 10 on the firmness scale. Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.

The support structure used in the Malfors is another layer of basic foam. This feels cheap and won’t provide adequate back support for many people. It doesn’t respond to body movements well at all, and feels noticeably unrefined.

The finer details

In terms of build quality and craftsmanship, the Malfors is poor. It has a low sitting height (12cm), and its quality and finishings are very basic. Partner disturbance is noticeable, but this will depend on the size of the occupants of the bed. With such a low profile height, edge support is poor.

Final verdict

The Malfors is as basic as you get when it comes to mattresses. Although it could be used for short term sleep situations, we would recommend spending a little extra for considerably higher levels of comfort.

All of our mattresses can be used immediately, but keep in mind that a packaged mattress only regains its full shape and comfort after approximately 72 hours. Your body also needs a couple of weeks to adapt to the new mattress.

Sometimes the mattress has a noticeable smell when you open the packaging. The smell isn’t harmful or toxic and disappears over time. Airing and vacuuming the mattress helps to eliminate the smell faster.
