Pure Trio Mattress Review

The Pure Trio Mattress is made from 100% natural latex, and is well certified as non-toxic and eco-friendly. It also comes with plenty of versatility, allowing you to adjust firmness levels by switching the configuration of its three latex layers.

Purchase and delivery

Just like other ‘mattress in a box’ products, the Pure Trio Mattress can be ordered online and will be delivered to your door in a box. Delivery charges apply and are added once your address has been entered at Checkout. Click and Collect is available from Springwood in Brisbane and Mosman in Sydney.(see full delivery details below in our ‘Delivery’ section).

The Pure Trio Mattress box arrived in reasonable condition and was larger than most boxes we are used to. This is largely due to the fact that as a full latex mattress, it isn’t heavily compressed (like most other mattress in a box products).

Unpacking the Pure Trio Mattress should only take 5-10 minutes, and as always we recommend having two people on hand to assist in the unpacking process. Despite it not being tightly compressed, we still allowed it to decompress for 24 hours before testing.

Pure Trio’s attention to detail is evident as soon as you unpack the mattress. Their plastic cutter is the best tool we have seen in the online mattress market, and this made the unpacking process a breeze. The information card (that illustrates the different firmness options) was also a nice touch.

From a visual perspective, the Pure Trio Mattress has a clean and natural appearance. Its cover is white with ‘wave shaped’ stitching, and a brand label can be seen at the base of the mattress.

Mattress construction

The Pure Trio Mattress uses a Tencel fibre cover, that is removable and washable. It is made from the wood pulp of sustainably grown Eucalyptus trees, and feels smooth and refined. It also feels breathable and well ventilated, so it should also help to regulate body temperature.

This Tencel cover encases 3 seperate layers of premium, natural latex. It’s worth noting here that the latex used in this mattress is free of impurities, and is sourced from renewable, ecologically-balanced plantations.

These 3 layers of latex include a 50mm layer (soft density), a 75mm layer (medium density), and a 75mm layer (firm density). Each layer is ventilated with a network of pinholes, and all layers can be rearranged to adjust firmness levels. This design creates a truely ‘customisable’ mattress.

How does the customisation work?

The Pure Trio Mattress allows you to rearrange the 3 latex layers to create 6 different firmness options. Pure Trio lists these options as:

• Plush Cloud
• Luxury Soft
• Medium Soft
• Luxury Medium
• Gentle Firm
• Firm

We would strongly recommend having two people available to assist in rearranging the latex layers. Latex has a rather heavy yet flimsy consistency, so moving these layers can be challenging. Getting each layer to ‘line up’ perfectly may take some patience.

Care must also be taken not to tear the latex (through the pinholes) when changing over the layers. Nevertheless, the zip mechanism is very smooth, making the the cover easy to remove.

It’s worth mentioning that, we didn’t notice a huge difference in the firmness options overall. We will discuss this in more detail below.

Comfort and support

The default configuration that the Pure Trio Mattress arrives in is the ‘Plush Cloud’ option. This has the soft density layer on top, followed by the medium density layer, and then the firm density layer.

Our team rated this configuration as a 3 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.

Plush Cloud version

The Luxury Medium option is set up with the the medium density layer on top, followed by the firm density layer, and then the soft density layer. Our team rated it as a 5.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest):

We thought it would also be sensible to also rate the ‘Firm’ option. This setting has the firm density layer on top, followed by the medium density layer, and then the soft density layer. Our team rated it as a 6 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). 

Firm version

The firm version doesn’t feel as firm as a typical firm mattress, and this relates to our findings in that there isn’t a huge difference in firmness between most of the configurations. Nevertheless, the customisation does offer some versatility to this mattress, and the firmness difference between ‘Plush Cloud’ and ‘Firm’ is noticeable.

In terms of comfort, the Pure Trio Mattress feels beautiful to sleep on in all configurations. Pressure relief is smooth, and all versions absorb body weight evenly. Even with the characteristic bouncy, rubbery feel of latex, the mattress feels well balanced.

Spinal support is also sound in each setting, assuming that each person chooses the most appropriate firmness level for their needs. It must be pointed out that if you’re after an unmistakable firm feel to your mattress, the Pure Trio Mattress probably won’t be for you.

The Pure Trio Mattress certainly doesn’t have the spongy feel of foam mattresses (or some innerspring mattresses), but we feel that deciding between latex and foam is a personal preference, rather than an objective assessment.

The finer details

The Pure Trio Mattress comes with a 21 year pro-rated warranty, another strong indication of Latex Mattress Australia’s confidence in the quality and durability of its product.

The Pure Trio Mattress is also well certified as non-toxic and eco-friendly by some of the world’s leading authorities (Eco Institut, LGA and Oeko-Tex) in latex and fabric testing.

The overall build quality of the Pure Trio Mattress is excellent. The materials and finishings appear to be of a high quality, and the zip mechanism is strong and easy to use.

The mattress doesn’t sit particularly high (23 cm) but its durable latex construction should accomodate people of all sizes. Edge support is a little soft, but still within normal limits for a latex mattress. The mattress isolates movement well, so partner disturbance shouldn’t be a big problem.

The Pure Trio Mattress is available in 6 sizes (king, queen, double, king single, long single and single) which should accomodate most sleeping arrangements.

The Pure Trio Mattress is a lovely mattress that holds numerous non-toxic certifications. It is made from sustainable latex, and comes with a 21 year pro-rated warranty.
