Hafslo Review
The Hafslo is a very basic mattress that lacks the levels of comfort and support that would be required for a regularly used mattress. Our expert team would not recommend it for medium or long term use.
Purchase and delivery
This mattress can be ordered online, and delivery is available Australia-wide (see full delivery information in our ‘Delivery’ section below). It can also be purchased through any of IKEA’s stores across Australia.
Aesthetically, the Hafslo presents with a simple, modern appearance. It uses a white and beige colour theme with a brand name label at its base.
Comfort and support
This mattress has a comfort layer that includes a cotton and polyester fabric and polyester wadding. If you think that this sounds basic, you would be right. This section offers very little pressure relief and its level of comfort wouldn’t be sufficient for most.
Furthermore, you can actually feel the springs during normal sleep movements. This is a sure sign of a cheap, poorly constructed mattress.
We rated the Hafslo as an ‘extra-firm’ feel and a 9 / 10 on the firmness scale. Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
The support structure used in the Hafslo is a Bonnell spring system. This spring unit feels incredibly cheap and flimsy and its levels of support and stability are as bad as we have seen. It will struggle under the weight of larger sized people.
The finer details
In terms of build quality and craftsmanship, the Hafslo is very poor. It does come with side handles, but its quality and finishings are cheap and unrefined. Partner disturbance will also be noticeable, but will naturally depend on the size of the occupants of the bed.
Please note that we do not recommend the Hafslo Firm to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
Available sizes
The Hafslo is available in 3 sizes (queen, double, and single) so it should suit most sleeping arrangements. Here are Australia’s standard bed (mattress) sizes in 2021.
Final verdict
The Hafslo is frankly one of the worst mattresses that we have tested. It feels cheap, flimsy, and would not even be good enough for a guest room.

All of our mattresses can be used immediately, but keep in mind that a packaged mattress only regains its full shape and comfort after approximately 72 hours. Your body also needs a couple of weeks to adapt to the new mattress.
Sometimes the mattress has a noticeable smell when you open the packaging. The smell isn’t harmful or toxic and disappears over time. Airing and vacuuming the mattress helps to eliminate the smell faster.
