Purchase and delivery
How do I buy the Cozey Orian Sofa Bed?
The Cozey Orian Sofa Bed can be purchased directly through the Cozey website, with free delivery available to Australian customers.
The ordering process allows customers to customise their sofa bed by selecting their preferred fabric, colour, seating configuration and optional ottoman. There are numerous combinations available, making it easy to find a layout that suits your living space and individual requirements.
As with the Cozey Neptune, the large number of customisation options can make the website feel a little busy and overwhelming initially. We recommend taking your time to work through the various selections to ensure you choose the right configuration.
The Orian is available in several fabric options, including Performance Fabric, Aquaforte, Aquaforte Velvet and Chenille. The Aquaforte range offers enhanced water and stain resistance, making it a practical choice for households with children or pets.
Our two-seater (queen-size bed) sample arrived in seven separate boxes. The boxes were thick, sturdy and of excellent quality, providing plenty of protection for the individual components. We were particularly impressed with the thoughtful packaging, which included additional cardboard inserts to protect the sofa components from accidental damage when opening the boxes with a box cutter.
Each component was carefully packed and wrapped in a protective white fabric bag or cover. Overall, the packaging was excellent and demonstrated considerable attention to detail.
We strongly recommend having two people available for unboxing and assembly, along with a large, clear floor area to arrange the various components.
A detailed instruction booklet is included, which we found very helpful. The booklet itself is beautifully presented and thoughtfully put together, adding to the premium feel of the overall package. However, even with two capable adults, assembly requires some patience, strength and careful positioning. In particular, the connecting brackets need to be aligned correctly.
The following assembly video may also be helpful.
We found the attachment system slightly more challenging than the one used on the Koala Wanda Sofa Bed, although the process was manageable once we became familiar with the connecting pieces.
There are also two small boxes containing screw-on legs, one of which was concealed inside an armrest.
It’s also worth planning ahead for the disposal of the cardboard packaging. Even our two-seater configuration generated a substantial amount of cardboard, which is unlikely to fit into a standard household recycling bin, even when broken down. You may need to arrange additional recycling space or a trip to your local recycling facility.
It’s also worth keeping the original packaging during the trial period. Cozey recommends retaining the boxes to make the return process easier should you decide to return your sofa bed.
Overall, we were very impressed with the quality and care of the packaging. Although assembly requires some time and effort, the finished product feels exceptionally solid, stable and well constructed.
Aesthetics and presentation
What does the Cozey Orian Sofa Bed look like?
The Cozey Orian Sofa Bed has a modern, stylish appearance with clean lines, generous cushioning and a minimalist design. Its wide armrests, neatly upholstered surfaces and low-profile base give it a contemporary look that should complement a wide range of living spaces.
The Orian is available in a variety of fabrics and colours, including Performance Fabric, Aquaforte, Aquaforte Velvet and Chenille. These options allow customers to choose between different textures and finishes, as well as lighter neutral tones and darker colours. The modular design also allows for numerous seating configurations, from compact two-seater sofas to large corner lounges.
In sofa mode, the Orian presents as a conventional, well-proportioned lounge, with its sofa bed mechanism neatly concealed within the frame. This gives it a clean, uncluttered appearance while maintaining the practicality of a convertible sofa bed.
Dimensions
What are the dimensions of the Cozey Orian Sofa Bed?
The Cozey Orian Sofa Bed is available in numerous configurations, so its overall dimensions will vary depending on the number of seats and the layout selected.
Our review sample was the two-seater sofa bed, which has the following dimensions:
- Width: 185 cm
- Depth: 104 cm
- Overall height: 79.5 cm
- Seat height: 42.5 cm
- Armrest height: 53.5 cm
These dimensions make the two-seater a relatively compact option, suitable for smaller living rooms, apartments or guest rooms.
For larger configurations, we recommend checking the dimensions on the Cozey website before purchasing to ensure your chosen layout will fit comfortably within your available space.
Product construction
What’s inside the Cozey Orian Sofa Bed?
The Cozey Orian Sofa Bed combines a sturdy internal frame, supportive foam cushioning and a steel conversion mechanism.
Its modular construction allows for a range of seating configurations, with the option of incorporating a sofa bed or additional storage.
1. Frame and sofa bed mechanism
The main frame is constructed from plywood and polyethylene, with a steel mechanism that allows the sofa to convert into a bed. This provides the structural foundation for both seating and sleeping.
2. Backrest cushions
The backrest cushions contain foam and polyethylene fibre, designed to provide a comfortable balance of softness and support when sitting or reclining.
3. Seat and ottoman cushions
The seat and ottoman cushions are made from foam and polypropylene fibre. These materials are designed to provide cushioning and support for everyday seating, while also contributing to the sleeping surface when the sofa is converted into a bed.
4. Upholstery fabric
The Orian is available in four upholstery options: Performance Fabric, Aquaforte, Aquaforte Velvet and Chenille.
The Performance Fabric and Chenille options are made from 100% polyester and feature machine-washable covers. Aquaforte offers enhanced water and stain resistance, making it particularly suitable for busy households with children or pets.
5. Legs and supporting components
The legs are constructed from plastic and metal, providing support for the sofa’s modular sections.
Comfort and support
How comfortable is the Cozey Orian Sofa Bed?
The Cozey Orian Sofa Bed offers a comfortable and supportive seating experience, combining firm cushioning with a pleasant level of responsiveness.
Our review sample was upholstered in Parchment Performance Fabric, which has a premium feel, with a breathable and durable texture that we found particularly appealing. It doesn’t have a particularly soft or silky finish, but feels robust, comfortable and well suited to everyday use.
The generously sized seat cushions have a relatively firm but comfortable feel. There is plenty of support, along with a nice level of bounce and responsiveness. You don’t tend to sink deeply into the cushioning, making it easy to move between different seating positions.
One notable characteristic of the Orian is its relatively deep seating area. Depending on your height, you may find yourself leaning back into the rear cushions to achieve a comfortable sitting position. Shorter users may benefit from adding an extra cushion for additional back support, while the existing cushions can also be removed or repositioned to suit individual preferences.
The armrests are adequately sized and offer a good level of padding. They have a relatively firm feel, but still provide a comfortable surface to rest your arms.
The Orian also has a relatively low backrest, which contributes to its modern, minimalist appearance. However, this means that there is no dedicated head or neck support, which may be a consideration for those who prefer a more upright or supportive lounge.
One of the key features of the Orian is its ability to convert from a sofa into a bed. The conversion process is a little different from other sofa beds we have tested, involving pulling the seat section forward, unfolding an additional section and folding down the backrest.
Although this process involves a few more steps than some competing models, the mechanism is cleverly designed and works effectively once you become familiar with it. Returning the bed to sofa mode is particularly straightforward, with the various sections folding back into place quite easily.
In bed mode, the Orian provides a firm but comfortable sleeping surface, with a pleasant level of responsiveness. Our two-seater sample converted into a sleeping area that measured within a few centimetres of a standard Australian queen mattress, meaning that queen-size bedding should fit reasonably well.
The sleeping surface is certainly not soft or plush, but it should appeal to those who prefer a firmer mattress. Those who enjoy a softer sleeping surface may benefit from adding a mattress topper for additional cushioning and pressure relief.
We were also impressed with the underlying support structure in bed mode. The Orian features numerous floor-contact support points, along with a central support beam and multiple connecting components. This creates a particularly solid and stable sleeping platform, which appears well suited to accommodating heavier individuals, although we would recommend checking the manufacturer’s specified weight capacity.
One minor inconvenience is that the fabric straps used during conversion can remain visible in bed mode. These can be tucked between the sections to maintain a cleaner appearance.
Overall, the Cozey Orian Sofa Bed offers a very good combination of comfort, support and practicality. Its firm, responsive cushioning provides a comfortable everyday seating experience, while the stable and supportive sleeping surface makes it a practical option for occasional overnight guests.
The finer details
What else should I know?
The Cozey Orian Sofa Bed has a thoughtfully designed construction, combining the practicality of a modular sofa with the convenience of a convertible bed.
We were particularly impressed with the overall build quality during our testing. The internal frame and steel conversion mechanism feel robust and well engineered, while the individual components fit securely together to create a solid and stable structure.
Another impressive feature is the extensive support system underneath the sofa in bed mode. A central support beam, along with numerous floor-contact supports and connecting components, creates a particularly strong sleeping platform.
The Orian also offers optional hidden storage compartments, which can be used to store pillows, blankets and other bedding. Our two-seater (queen bed) sample did not include any storage compartments. The removable, machine-washable covers are another welcome inclusion, particularly for families with children or pets.
