Purchase and delivery

As with other mattress in a box options, the Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress can be conveniently ordered online (through the Breeze Home website) and it will arrive at your door in a box.

Our box arrived in good condition and the mattress was relatively easy to remove from its packaging. As usual though, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box.

Unpacking the Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress should only take 5-10 minutes, and we allowed it to decompress for 48 hours before testing.

The mattress comes with a handy cutting tool, as well as a neat product booklet that includes useful information about the product.

Aesthetically, the Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress has a simple yet modern look. It sits 32cm high and uses a black and white colour theme with a brand label at the base.

Mattress construction

The Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress is an innerspring mattress with a number of components:

1. Organic Cotton Cover

This organic cotton cover is hypo-allergenic and highly breathable. The fabric is GOTS certified and is free from over 100 harmful substances.

2. Premium Memory Foam

This premium full sheet of memory foam is CertiPUR-US® certified. As such, it is low-VOC, formaldehyde- and phthalate-free. This foam is designed for extra comfort and to help relieve pressure on body.

3. Pocket Spring System

This pocket spring system is 23cm high. It is an individually pocketed spring system with different zones for sufficient support for all parts of your body.

It is designed for no partner disturbance as each set of springs works individually with each other, limiting the amount of movement across the mattress.

4. 4D Mesh Fabric

This 4D mesh fabric is located at the sides of the top comfort layer (Euro Top) and helps to maximise air flow and ventilation.

Comfort and support

The organic cotton cover feels soft, breathable, and should help to regulate sleep temperature in some way.

This memory foam layer feels spongy and offers a reasonable level of comfort.

The Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but this suitability will vary between individuals.

Based on our testing, our team rated this mattress as a ‘medium-firm’ feel and an 7 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).

Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.

Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.

We tested the Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.

The Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress offers good back support and the pocket spring mattress feels fairly stable and balanced. This mattress should accommodate people of most sizes.

With that said, for those who are on the larger side though (over 100kgs), we would recommend a more robust innerspring mattress such as the Yinahla Posture Gel.

The Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress doesn’t respond particularly well to normal sleep movements. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) may be easier on other mattresses.

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

The finer details

The Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress is relatively well made, when you consider its price.

Edge support isn’t fantastic and the perimeter areas will dip a bit during sitting. With that said, edge support is still within normal limits for an innerspring mattress  – users should be able to use the full mattress surface without fear of falling off the edge.

The Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress comes with practical side handles, making it easy to carry. These handles are easy to use and are attached strongly.

As mentioned earlier, this mattress comes with two non-toxic certifications. The memory foam layer is certified by CertiPUR-US® and the organic cotton cover is certified by GOTS.

These certifications should give plenty of reassurance that this product is safe to bring into your home.

What bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.

A bed base with solid slats (with slats no longer than 8 cm apart) such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.

Chiropedic Bed Base

We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty.

We don’t recommend the Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.

It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.

Trial period and warranty

The Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress does not come with a trial period.

We also couldn’t find any information relating to a warranty policy on Breeze Home’s website so we would assume that this mattress does not come with a warranty.

Available sizes

This mattress is available in 5 sizes (king, queen, double, king single, and single size) so it should accommodate most sleeping situations.

The Breeze Pocket Spring Mattress is a serviceable mattress that offers good value. It has respectable levels of comfort and support, and its non-toxic certifications are noteworthy.
