Vestmarka Mattress Review
The Vestmarka Mattress is an inexpensive, low quality innerspring mattress that is available in a firm or extra firm feel.
Purchase and delivery
The Vestmarka Mattress can be purchased through the IKEA website or at any of their 12 stores Australia-wide. Delivery costs will depend on your location, but a typical delivery cost to a metropolitan area is $49.
This mattress has a plain appearance with a grey and white colour theme. It sits 18cm high which is much lower than many other innerspring mattresses.
Comfort and support
The Vestmarka Mattress uses an outer cover made of 73% cotton, 27 % polyester (100% recycled) with an underside of non-woven polypropylene.
The comfort materials include a 100% polyester filling and a layer of polyurethane foam (25 kg/cubic metre).
The firm version of this mattress offers a questionable level of comfort that would be most suited for back sleepers.
Our expert reviewers all agreed that the firm option of this mattress has a firm feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 8 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).
Firm option
Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies.
The extra firm version of this mattress has a level of comfort that may be inadequate for regular use, and we woudl question its suitability for any sleeping position.
Our expert reviewers all agreed that the firm option of this mattress has an extra firm feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 8.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).
Extra firm option
The support structure of this mattress is a steel Bonnell spring system. Like many Bonnell springs, this system feels unsteady and unstable. Like its level of comfort in both firmness options, back support on this mattress may not be suitable for regular use.
The Vestmarka Mattress responds excessively to normal sleep movements. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) will involve a lot of mattress movement and partner disturbance.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The overall build quality of this mattress is well below average. The mattress construction and materials are very basic and the foam components feel cheap and unrefined.
The overall build quality of this mattress is well below average.
Not surprisingly for a mattress of this quality, edge support is lacking, so users may not be able to utilise the entire surface of the mattress.
Partner disturbance is very noticeable and a restless partner will likely cause problems. As always though, motion transfer will vary depending on the mattress size and the size of the occupants of the bed.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Vestmarka Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.
A bed base with solid slats (with slats no longer than 8 cm apart) such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty.
We do not recommend the Vestmarka Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Available sizes
The Vestmarka Mattress is available in 3 sizes (queen, double, and single) so it should suit many sleeping arrangements.

Final verdict
The Vestmarka Mattress is a low quality mattress that we wouldn’t recommend for regular use. Its levels of comfort and support will likely be deficient for most people.
