Vannareid Mattress Review
The Vannareid Mattress is a low quality, innerspring mattress with a firm feel.
Purchase and delivery
The Vannareid Mattress can be purchased through the IKEA website or at any of their 12 stores Australia-wide. Delivery costs will depend on your location, but a typical delivery cost to a metropolitan area is $49.
The mattress is roll packed which should make it easier to transport.
This mattress has a very plain appearance with a beige colour theme. It sits 12cm high which much lower than many other innerspring mattresses.
Comfort and support
The Vannareid Mattress uses an outer cover made of 55% cotton, 45% polyester ticking (min. 90% recycled). The ticking (cloth) underneath is made of 100% polypropylene and helps to add softness to the mattress.
The top comfort section of the mattress includes a layer of 100 % polyester and a layer of polyurethane foam 25 kg/cubic metre.
These comfort materials offer a level of comfort that could only be described as very basic. This mattress would most likely suit back sleepers but understandably, its suitability will vary between individuals.
Our expert reviewers all agreed that this mattress has a firm feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 8 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).
Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies.
The Vannareid Mattress uses a steel pocket spring system. This support structure also feels basic and may not provide adequate support for some people.
The Vannareid Mattress responds nicely to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness in the ‘optimal’ zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The overall build quality of this mattress is poor. The mattress construction and materials are basic and the foam components feels cheap unsophisticated.
The overall build quality of this mattress is poor.
As you would expect, edge support is a little lacking, so care must be taken to not roll off the edge during sleep.
The mattress does contain side handles to make it easier to carry and transport.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Vannareid Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.
A bed base with solid slats (with slats no longer than 8 cm apart) such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty.
We do not recommend the Vannareid Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Available sizes
The Vannareid Mattress is available only in a single size.

Final verdict
The Vannareid Mattress is a low quality mattress that is likely not suitable for regular use. Its low profile design may not offer adequate levels of support.

All of our mattresses can be used immediately, but keep in mind that a packaged mattress only regains its full shape and comfort after approximately 72 hours. Your body also needs a couple of weeks to adapt to the new mattress.
Sometimes the mattress has a noticeable smell when you open the packaging. The smell isn’t harmful or toxic and disappears over time. Airing and vacuuming the mattress helps to eliminate the smell faster.
