Koala Kookaburra Cot Review
The Koala Kookaburra Cot is a well designed that has two mattress heights to accommodate a growing baby. It is made from natural timber and is highly certified as safe and eco-friendly.
Purchase and delivery
The Koala Kookaburra Cot can be conveniently ordered online through the Koala website.
Koala offers an impressive same day delivery in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. Standard delivery is free but please see our ‘Delivery’ section further down for more details.
The cot arrived in 2 sturdy cardboard boxes – one with a weight of 16kgs (and dimensions 114.5cm wide, 91.5cm deep, and 10.5cm high), and the other with a weight of 23.5kgs (and dimensions 142cm wide, 81.5cm deep, and 12.5cm high).
Considering the size and weight of these two boxes, we would strongly recommend two people be available to take delivery. It’s worth noting here that Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane (metro) customers can also select a premium delivery option that includes assembly and rubbish removal (at an additional cost).
Visually, the Koala Kookaburra Cot has a natural and stylish look. It comes in one colour (‘Natural Beech’) that should suit most most bedroom decor themes.
Assembly
The Koala Kookaburra Cot is relatively easy to assemble and should take 10-15 minutes to set up. It won’t require any tools but we would recommend having two people on hand to assemble this cot.
We have assembled many cots and bedding products over the years, but we did have some trouble fastening the safety bolts in each corner.
Nevertheless, Koala’s video below demonstrates how to assemble this cot.
Product construction
The side panels, legs, and spacers are all made of solid beech wood. Beech is a genus of deciduous trees native to Europe, Asia, and North America.
The headboard/footboard and bottom panel are made of a Beech veneer with Poplar Plywood. Veneer refers to thin slices of wood that are typically glued onto plywood core panels.
Practicality and stability
As we alluded to earlier, this cot allows you to adjust the height of the bottom panel, and thus the height of the mattress. This feature is notably handy in context of safety and a growing baby.
Adjusting the height of the cot will require a little manual work, but ideally this adjustment shouldn’t be required too often. As we said earlier, securing the the safety bolts was an issue for our reviewers on the higher (baby) setting. This didn’t seem to affect the strength or stability of the cot, but is still worth mentioning in terms of practicality.
Overall, the Koala Kookaburra Cot feels strong, stable, and secure. The different height settings seem logical and the wood components appear to be of high quality.
The finer details
The Koala Kookaburra Cot has an impressive 120 night trial period. This means that you can return the cot for a refund if you are not satisfied with the product. Koala will pick it up for free in major metro areas, but drop off needs to be arranged by the customer in other areas.
The Koala Kookaburra Cot also comes with a handy 5 year warranty to cover any defects or faulty workmanship.
