The mattress arrived in a sturdy cardboard box with a total weight of 12.7kgs (and dimensions 134cm wide, 72cm deep, 13.8cm high). It was not compressed like a typical bed in a box.
The product also has a convenient storage bag to help protect it from dust. Additionally, the Koala Joey Baby Mattress includes a children’s bedtime story book – Rihanna the Goanna, as well as a ‘Care and Safety Guide’ booklet.
Aesthetically, the Koala Joey Baby Mattress has a natural and modern appearance. It has a cream and beige colour theme, with a circular product label at the base.
Mattress construction
The outer cover of this mattress feels durable, breathable, and is made from 100% polyester.
The inner cover consists of 100% TENCEL™ Lyocell fibre with TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane fabric) backing. This is much thinner than the outer cover, but still provides a water resistant barrier to protect the mattress from spills.
The main body of this cot mattress includes multiple layers of polyurethane foam and tempered steel pocket springs. A spring system in a cot mattress is noteworthy as it helps to enhance ventilation – relevant for infant breathing and respiration.
Comfort and support
The Koala Joey Baby Mattress is very well balanced with comfort and support. The combination of foam and springs produces a firm and responsive feel. In short, the mattress firmness is ideal for the needs of infants.

The overall workmanship of this mattress is of high quality. The finishings are well made and the stitching is strong. Edge support is solid, so firmness and support feel even across the entire surface of the mattress.
It’s worth mentioning here that the outer cover is removable and machine washable, making it easy to keep your baby’s sleep surface clean and hygienic.
The zip is smooth and strong, and has a thoughtful safety feature. This involves the zip pull requiring an adult to dig it out of a small fabric cover. This would be too difficult for a child and would prevent any hazards involving the cover.

Safety Instructions
Babies are recommended to sleep in their own safe sleep space with a caregiver or parent from birth to six months.
Warning
- Do not use more than one mattress in the cot (crib and suspended bed).
- Be aware of the risk of open fire and other sources of strong heat, such as electric bar fires, gas fires, etc. in the near vicinity of the cot (crib and suspended bed).
- This mattress is intended for use with a cot recommending a mattress size of 1320mm x 700mm and a thickness of at least 120mm in height. a correct fitting mattress should not have more than 20mm of space between the cot sides or ends.
Caution
- Do not use the product if any part is broken; torn or missing and use only spare parts approved by manufacturer.
- Avoid using loose fitting sheets, comforters, quilts or blankets. These are all linked to an increased risk of serious injury or death.
Suffocation hazard
- Never place additional items into the cot space such as bumpers, pillows, toys, lambswool or bulky bedding as this significantly increases the risk of SIDS.
