Purchase and delivery
As with other beds in a box, the 10:03 Mattress can be conveniently ordered online (through the 10:PM website) and it will be delivered to your door in a compact box.
10:PM currently offers free delivery to the Sydney metro area, with Australia wide delivery coming soon. 10:PM offers next day delivery, along with convenient tracking details.
The mattress was relatively easy to remove from its packaging, but we recommend having two people available to unpack any mattress in a box. Unpacking the 10:03 Mattress takes 5-10 minutes, and we allowed 48 hours for the mattress to decompress before testing.
Aesthetically, the 10:03 Mattress presents well with a bright and stylish vibe. It uses black, navy blue, orange, and white in its colour theme along with 10:PM branding tape around the sides. The model name embroidery also gives it a nice finishing touch.
The mattress sits 30cm high which is about average height for an innerspring mattress.
Mattress construction
The 10:03 Mattress has a sophisticated construction that includes numerous comfort layers, a shallow pocket spring system, and a perimeter reinforcement
The top cover of the mattress is made of an EcoSoft TENCEL™ Cover which feels smooth and breathable.
This cover sits over a special ThermoBalance layer which is an advanced, breathable membrane. This layer helps to regulate temperature by absorbing or releasing heat for the perfect sleep temperature.
The top cover (and ThermoBalance membrane) sits over a 3cm layer of gel-infused memory foam. This is designed for enhanced pressure relief and temperature regulation.
In addition to the gel-infused memory foam is a 6cm layer of ComfyCore Foam. This is a premium, open cell memory foam that is designed for a supportive, comfortable, and cool sleep.
These comfort layers sit over a 3 zone pocket spring system (6cm in depth) and a ComfyCore Foam for maximum back support and spinal alignment. The depth of the pocket spring system is unusually shallow, but should still provide a supportive and breathable structure.
The base layer is named the PowerSupport Foam Layer – a deep layer (15cm) of high-performing and durable support foam to provide a sturdy sleep foundation.
Comfort and support
The top cover of this mattress feels smooth and breathable. This may be relevant for hot sleepers in terms of heat minimisation.
The foam comfort layers produce a spongy and foamy feel that gives plenty of pressure relief. The foams feel reasonably dense (an indicator of good foam quality) and the comfort layer absorbs body weight fairly evenly.
The 10:03 Mattress should suit most side sleepers, but it may also suit back sleepers and stomach sleepers. Understandably though, this suitability will vary between individuals.
All of our reviewers agreed that the 10:03 Mattress is a ‘medium-soft’ feel and by majority vote, we settled on a 4.5 / 10 rating on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.
We tested the 10:03 Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.
The combination of the spring system and deep support foam blend together well to provide good support and stability. 10:PM has not listed an official weight limit on this mattress so it should accommodate people of all sizes.
When it comes to partner disturbance, this mattress isolates motion well. So, a restless partner should not pose a significant problem for most users. It’s worth noting though that larger mattresses (e.g. king size) usually involve lower amounts of motion transfer. Partner disturbance will also depend on the size (and weight) of the occupants of the bed.
Despite the 10:03 Mattress having a spongy feel, it still responds fairly well to normal sleep movements. We rated its level of responsiveness in the optimal zone, so changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t cause any issues.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The overall build quality and craftsmanship of the 10:03 Mattress is sound. The finishings and fabrics appear to be strong and durable, and the mattress itself feels sturdy and well made.
The foam edge encasement is an example of the high level of quality throughout this mattress. Cheaper, inferior mattresses don’t typically have any foam perimeter reinforcements.
Edge support is reasonable but we didn’t expect this mattress to be outstanding in this area. It is difficult for softer mattresses (such as this one) with deep comfort layers to maintain a firm edge.
Nevertheless, users should be able to use all of the mattress surface during sleep, without the fear of rolling off the edge.
The overall build quality and craftsmanship of the 10:03 Mattress is sound.
The omission of side handles is one disappointing blemish on this mattress. Even though the handles may take away from the neat and clean look, side handles are highly practical and do make rotating/transporting a mattress much easier. Perhaps this could be a refinement that 10:PM would consider at some stage down the track.
There is a zip mechanism that allows you to remove the outer cover of this mattress. However, 10:PM strongly advises to not remove this cover as removal will void the warranty. If any spillage or stains occur on the mattress cover, spot cleaning with a cloth and warm soapy water is recommended.
Independent Certifications
The 10:03 Mattress is officially Australian made and is highly certified as non-toxic and eco-friendly.
The foams in the 10:03 Mattress have been specially treated with Ultra-Fresh (to minimise bacterial growth) and are formally certified by GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia). GECA assesses products based on their toxicity and environmental impacts.
The 10:03 Mattress is also approved by Sensitive Choice, an independent group that assesses products in context of asthma and allergy sufferers.
Every 10:PM mattress is spun with SEAQUAL® YARN – an environmentally friendly material made from recycled plastics gathered from the ocean. Every 10:PM mattress cover also includes TENCEL™ – an environmentally friendly fibre that is produced from natural wood
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the 10:03 Mattress to be used with a bed base with rigid slats (not flexible/posture slats) with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart.
A base that we would recommend to be used with the 10:03 Mattress is the Chiropedic Bed Base.
We do not recommend the 10:03 Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this may cause damage to the mattress. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty. Furthermore, mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Trial period and warranty
The 10:03 Mattress comes with a 100 night trial period. This is a typical trial period offering of many other beds in a box. This means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied. Naturally, conditions do apply.
This mattress also comes with a 10 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is also a typical warranty period of similarly priced products.
