Purchase and delivery

As with other beds in a box, the 10:01 Mattress can be conveniently ordered online (through the 10:PM website) and it will be delivered to your door in a compact box.

10:PM currently offers free delivery to the Sydney metro area, with Australia wide delivery coming soon. 10:PM offers next day delivery, along with convenient tracking details.

The mattress was relatively easy to remove from its packaging, but we recommend having two people available to unpack any mattress in a box. Unpacking the 10:01 Mattress takes 5-10 minutes, and we allowed 48 hours for the mattress to decompress before testing.

Aesthetically, the 10:01 Mattress presents well with a bright and stylish vibe. It uses black, navy blue, orange, and white in its colour theme along with 10:PM branding tape around the sides. The model name embroidery also gives it a nice finishing touch.

The mattress sits 25cm high which is about average for a foam mattress.

Mattress construction

The 10:01 Mattress has an simple construction that is made up of 2 foam layers.

The top cover of the mattress is made of an EcoSoft TENCEL™ Cover which feels smooth and breathable.

The top cover sits over a (60mm) layer of ComfyCore Foam, a premium, open cell memory foam that is designed for a supportive, comfortable, and cool sleep.

The main foundation of this mattress is a base layer named the PowerSupport Foam Layer – a deep layer (19cm) of high-performing and durable support foam to provide a sturdy sleep foundation.

Comfort and support

The top cover of this mattress feels smooth and breathable. This may be relevant for hot sleepers in terms of heat minimisation.

The foam comfort layer (ComfyCore Foam) offers a reasonable level of comfort but is noticeably firmer than the flagship 10:03 Mattress. Like the 10:02 Mattress, it has a spongy sensation that that absorbs body weight smoothly.

On the whole, the top comfort layer should give a nice balance of comfort and support.

The 10:01 Mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but understandably, this suitability will vary between individuals.

All of our reviewers agreed that the 10:01 Mattress is a ‘medium-firm’ feel and by majority vote, we settled on a 7.5 / 10 rating on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.

Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.

We tested the 10:01 Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.

The deep support section (the PowerSupport Foam Layer) offers good support and the mattress feels reasonably sturdy. 10:PM has not listed an official weight limit on this mattress so it should accommodate people of all sizes. With that said, we would recommend a more robust innerspring mattress for larger people.

When it comes to partner disturbance, this mattress isolates motion well. So, a restless partner should not pose a significant problem for most users. It’s worth noting though that larger mattresses (e.g. king size) usually involve lower amounts of motion transfer. Partner disturbance will also depend on the size (and weight) of the occupants of the bed.

Despite the 10:01 Mattress having a spongy feel, it still responds fairly well to normal sleep movements. We rated its level of responsiveness in the optimal zone, so changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t cause any issues.

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

The finer details

The overall build quality and craftsmanship of the 10:01 Mattress is sound. The finishings and fabrics appear to be strong and durable, and the mattress itself feels sturdy and well made.

Edge support is reasonable but we didn’t expect this mattress to be outstanding in this area. Foam mattresses (such as this one) won’t typically possess the perimeter strength like many firm, innerspring mattresses.

Nevertheless, users should be able to use all of the mattress surface during sleep, without the fear of rolling off the edge.

The top comfort layer should give a nice balance of comfort and support.

The omission of side handles is one disappointing blemish on this mattress. Even though the handles may take away from the neat and clean look, side handles are highly practical and do make rotating/transporting a mattress much easier. Perhaps this could be a refinement that 10:PM would consider at some stage down the track.

There is a zip mechanism that allows you to remove the outer cover of this mattress. However, 10:PM strongly advises to not remove this cover as removal will void the warranty. If any spillage or stains occur on the mattress cover, spot cleaning with a cloth and warm soapy water is recommended.

Independent Certifications

The 10:01 Mattress is officially Australian made and is highly certified as non-toxic and eco-friendly.

The foams in the 10:02 Mattress have been specially treated with Ultra-Fresh (to minimise bacterial growth) and are formally certified by GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia). GECA assesses products based on their toxicity and environmental impacts.

The 10:01 Mattress is also approved by Sensitive Choice, an independent group that assesses products in context of asthma and allergy sufferers.

Every 10:PM mattress is spun with SEAQUAL® YARN – an environmentally friendly material made from recycled plastics gathered from the ocean. Every 10:PM mattress cover also includes TENCEL™ – an environmentally friendly fibre that is produced from natural wood

What bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the 10:01 Mattress to be used with a bed base with rigid slats (not flexible/posture slats) with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart.

A base that we would recommend to be used with the 10:01 Mattress is the Chiropedic Bed Base.

Chiropedic Bed Base

We do not recommend the 10:01 Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this may cause damage to the mattress. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.

It’s worth noting here that use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty. Furthermore, mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.

Trial period and warranty

The 10:01 Mattress comes with a 100 night trial period. This is a typical trial period offering of many other beds in a box. This means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied. Naturally, conditions do apply.

This mattress also comes with a 10 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is also a typical warranty period of similarly priced products.

Final verdict

The 10:01 Mattress is a nice foam mattress that should provide ample levels of comfort and support for most users. As with all 10:PM mattresses, it is Australian made and uses non-toxic foams.
