Before you make your purchase, here is some handy information that you should know!
When should I use a mattress topper?
As we alluded to earlier, a mattress topper can be useful in a number of different situations.
Possibly the most common application for a mattress topper, is use with an old (usually uncomfortable) mattress. This may provide an additional layer of comfort and support, and may extend the life of the mattress. A mattress topper may also be a temporary solution while you save for a new mattress.
Peace Lily Topper (on the Peace Lily Mattress)
Even though a mattress topper may provide additional comfort or support on your current mattress, it won’t always compensate for a mattress that is performing poorly (e.g. too old, not suitable for your body shape). If this is the case, purchasing a new mattress is strongly recommended.
As well as adding some comfort to your mattress, a mattress topper can be a great temporary sleep option (e.g. to use on the floor), or a space saving option for kids sleepovers! They can also be useful for camping, or sleeping in the car.
It’s worth noting that some mattress toppers such as the Emma Flip Topper come with a free trial period (e.g. 100 nights), so you can get a full refund if you are not satisfied.
What are mattress toppers made of?
Mattress toppers will typically have a polyester fabric cover that encases a main body of foam. Many of these covers are removable and washable, like on the Zeek Top Notch Topper (pictured below).
The main body of a mattress topper is usually made of foam (e.g. memory foam) but some are also made of latex (e.g. Peace Lily Mattress Topper).
How thick is a mattress topper?
Mattress toppers can vary in depth, but most will sit between 4 cm and 8 cm in height. Generally speaking, the thicker the topper, the more softness it will add to your mattress. As an example, the Ecosa Topper is 5 cm thick.
As you would expect, mattress toppers vary in quality and thickness. Understandably, this will influence the level of comfort and support that they offer.
