A great way to get started is to check out our most popular articles - 'Australia's Best Mattresses' list and 'Australia's Top 12 Mattress in a Box' list.
We have also compiled a 'Complete Buyer's Guide' that contains all of the information that you will need before buying!
2. Do I have to spend thousands of dollars to get a good mattress?
Not at all. There are many excellent mattresses for under $2000 and some very good ones for under $1000. To see our list of Australia’s ‘Best Value’ mattresses, click here.
3. How much should I spend on a new mattress?
This would be one of our most frequently asked questions! This will depend on your individual needs and your life situation. Generally speaking, you can get a very good mattress for $1000 – $2000 (Queen size) but we often recommend more expensive mattresses based on individual preferences or certain health conditions.
4. What sizes do mattresses come in?
The dimensions of Australian bed sizes can be seen below. Most mattresses are available in a single, king single, double, queen, and king size. Some also come in a long single or a super king size. 5. Does it matter what base I put my mattress on?
Yes, the type of bed base can certainly affect how your mattress feels and performs so it is worth taking the time to consider what type of bed base is best for you. Most mattresses will go fine on an ‘ensemble base’ or a ‘slat base’. It’s important to ensure that your mattress warranty covers the mattress on the base that you choose. 6. What’s best – a firm or soft mattress?
Another frequently asked question! Unfortunately there is no standard recommendation with firmness as every person is different. The best mattress for you depends on your age, gender, body type, health condition, spinal condition, and sleeping position/s. We recommend that you chat with us to discuss what firmness may be right for you. If you need any assistance, please contact us.
7. What is a ‘mattress in a box’?
A mattress in a box is simply a mattress that has been compressed by machinery to fit into a box. This allows for easier storage, transport, and makes it easier for the customer to place it into their home. These products can be ordered online and come with a ‘free trial period’. 8. What type of mattress is best – springs, foam, or latex?
This will depend on your personal preference as each mattress type will generally have a distinct feel. We often recommend a good quality pocket spring mattress, but again it will depend on the individual’s needs. To read more about the main types of mattresses, click here.
9. Can a new mattress help with back pain?
Most certainly. Your mattress has a significant effect on the health and posture of your spine. If your mattress is too hard or too soft, it may not be supporting your spine in the correct position during sleep. This can lead to muscle pains, back / neck pain, nerve pain, and general soreness. A new mattress that supports your spine correctly can certainly help to reduce back pain. To see our list of Australia’s Best Mattresses for Back Pain, click here.
10. How long will a mattress generally last?
Most good quality mattresses should last around 10 years. It is important to recognise though that there are many factors involved when it comes to the longevity of a mattress. Most mattresses these days will have a 10 year warranty to cover any major defects so a new mattress should certainly be seen as a long term purchase and one to get right!
